How to Get Involved!

Be a part of the community that supports our school by volunteering your time! Talk to your child's teacher about volunteering in the classroom or talk with a representative from one of the following committees to see how you can help. Every family can help in some way, even if it is for just a few hours a month or several hours a week - WE NEED YOU! And remember, you don't have to be an expert at art, gardening or fundraising to help, we just need a little of your time!

Amigos de la Academia Sandoval is an independent, non-profit organization associated with Academia Sandoval. Our mission is to raise money for the early childhood education program and other education purposes so that Sandoval can deliver a high quality public education to our student population. Amigos raises money for scholarships, paraprofessional salaries, teacher training and field trips. We currently have vacancies on the board and are looking for others who would be willing to volunteer on various projects throughout the school year. You can support the work that Amigos does by serving on the Board of Amigos, volunteering to help with fundraising activities, donating to Amigos each year, and encouraging others to volunteer and donate. Amigos meets on the second Tuesday of every month from 4-6 p.m. in the Library. Childcare is provided. Our next meeting is September 8th; please join us!

The Art Committee is an energetic group of parents (both artists and non artists) who support and believe in the value and importance of art for every child at Sandoval. There are many levels in which to participate. Volunteers can work in primary classrooms, place artwork up in hallways, organize fundraisers, teach afterschool classes and/or help with stage design for school performances. We also financially support cultural events and experiences for students and provide art supplies to supplement the art room and all teachers. Please join us on the first Fridays of each month at 9am in room 242. We would love to meet you!

The main goal of the Green Garden Committee is to introduce gardening through hands-on experience to our students. Last year our students planted paper whites in the winter, planted seeds in the classroom that they later transplanted to the school garden in the spring, and harvested the plants in the fall. A more recent goal of the committee is to create a "greener" school environmentally. Please join us for Sandoval's Second Annual Walk to School Day on October 7, 2009. Our first meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 9th at 9:00am in Room 153. Following meetings will be on the first Wednesday of every month at 9am.

The Library Committee organizes the Book Fair and Pajama Night in December. We need volunteers to help with this effort as well as shelving, tidying and processing new books and/or serving on an advisory committee. We can use your help whether you have five minutes or hours to spare!

The main goal of PALAS (Sandoval Latino Parent group) is to promote active parent participation in the academic achievement and personal growth of our children. We create events that involve the entire Sandoval community in the celebration of cultural diversity because our diversity strengthens the success of our children, inside the classroom and out. We meet on the 4th Friday of each month, not only to share ideas but to discuss all school wide activities and events. We also choose a monthly educational topic to be presented by the Principal or another expert, in topics like health or education, on the 2nd Friday of each month. PALAS works with other committees to involve more Latino parents in school activities.

The Special Events Committee is comprised of dedicated parents whose goal is to enhance the school and local neighborhood experience by sponsoring special events for students, parents and staff. Upcoming special events include Coffee & Kleenex (new parent welcome), Primary Fall Festival/Pumpkin Patch, Teacher Appreciation Day, and the Sandoval Family Community Carnival. Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 10th at 9am in the school atrium.
